Taking the Good with the Bad
I’m working on almost a year of publicly blogging. I have been a ‘journal’ writer for as long as I can remember. I have journals dating back to 5th grade. No, my spelling and structure hasn’t gotten much better since then…in case you’re wondering. Hope you’re not thinking it will improve either.
Since my blog spanned out further than my mom, sister and beautiful friend, Lisa I have gotten my share of mail that is, shall we say, less than sweet.
I decided a long time ago that any personal emails I get that are unpleasant will get the same reply, “Thank you for the email.” and then I hit delete and then I go into my deleted folder and I delete it forever. I never wanted to go back and reread it and feel that hurt again.
I also decided that I wouldn’t make any of these emails public on my blog. It’s too easy to do that. It’s too easy for me to get really upset and publicly blast the person for being a complete idiot and mean ass SOB for saying what they said. If I were to do this I would be inviting more sour emails and then my readers would get really angry at the person who decided to call me a mean name.
It’s a cycle that would eventually ruin my blog. I’ve found blogs that spend way too much time worrying about what someone said to them, about them or behind their back. Their writing went from humorous and ‘real’ to ‘edgy’ and carrying mean undertones and hidden messages to the person that was being mean to them. I will not do that to Random and Odd.
With that said, I do get some totally kick ass emails. I got one this week from one of my blogless readers. Hi Charlotte!
She had some really sweet things to say and it made my day to get this email.
It’s wonderful how someone saying, “I like what you have to say. Thank you for sharing.’ can really lift someone who is feeling a little bit down.
In the contact section of Dooce she says, ‘your email can either make or break my day.’ and I finally understand what she means by that. I have gotten my share of the bad, but sometimes I get the good too. This is the stuff I want to share with you guys. The good. My little corner of the internet is so good.
For those that want to send mean emails, go right on ahead…i’m going to hit delete and you’re not going to get the public display you are so eagerly trying to achieve.
If you have ever sent someone an email or left a comment saying, ‘i like your blog, thank you for sharing.’ I just want to buy you a Coke and sing you a song.
You’re the ones that make the internet so good.
