a cute, little house in Sacramento (not my house)
When Shaun moved in we decided to shove all his boxes in the garage and go through them when we had more time.
Time isn’t something we have a whole lot of…neither is space.
This last weekend I cleaned my closet for the 4th time since he moved in. Everytime I clean the closet I get rid of about 3 pairs of shoes and the space I make is quickly replaced with something else I own.
EVERYTHING can be found in my closet.
“Mom, do you know where the weed eater is?”
“Check my closet.”
It was time to get rid of some more of my stuff and reorganize the closet. I realized I am the Carrie Bradshaw of “Payless Shoe Source”. I had to get rid of 17 pairs of shoes to make room for Shaun’s things. In the space that 17 shoes use to live now houses 2 large boxes of “Shaun Things”. I also got rid of clothes, books and purses. Three of my favoritest things. The closet is now organized. TWO people now live in my bedroom.
Letting people in my life was easy. I’ve never had a problem loving one more person and sharing my life. On the other hand, letting people into my house is a whole other story.
Last weekend we moved Tyler into the garage. He’s happy to have a space of his own. It’s a place to call his own, decorate and put his stuff.
I was so excited to give up that space to make him so happy.
Even though we call the bedroom ‘Our room’, Shaun doesn’t really have much space for his things, except for the dresser I gave up. It was time to let go and let Shaun have some room in the closet.
I mean…he does kill the big spiders in the shower, he deserves some space in the closet. Right?

Our garage has wordworking equipment and lumber, 6 bicycles (three people live here), and the dropbox for the mail slot. We don’t park any cars inside, either.
Oh, and tell Tyler Congratulations for some space to call his own. Reminds me of the Dolly Parton interview when she talks about how proud she was when her daddy put up the curtain in their little house in the Blue Ridge mountains.
And Yeah! First!
I don’t like pink houses, but that’s actually kind of pretty. In a weird way.
And hmmm…I shall speak nothing of the closet in our bedroom except to say that soon, very soon, my stuff is going to completely overtake his! LOL
Do you live in that house? Because if you do, that clinches it – I will be moving in shortly. (You’ve still got half a garage, right? Plenty of room!)
1-I left a commet over at jessica rabbits- it pertains to you a bit.
2. OMG you are Phil and I. Except in reverse. I have no closet since we moved in together. I do, however, have the entire basement. Its a nice basement- I have my study down there, and SPACE! I had to get rid of ZERO shoes!! Although, we argue about shoes all the time. Something about only needing tennis shoes, dress shoes, and loafers. I cant get my mind around that concept! HELLO? SHOES make the outfit. Next house we buy- HUGE ASS closet, with a built in shoe holder- at least to hold 50 pair- I can store winter and summer ;-)
Unpacking- we moved in in January. Um, yeah- when we get the time.
Tyler must be so excited to have his own space! YEAH!
yeah for tylers independence and new bachelor pad.
how old is he again?
yeah for shaun gettin some of the closet..although, i wouldn’t have gotten rid of the shoes. i’d be gutted if i had to do that.
Awww… he’s all growed up now.
Is that your house? It is pink! I love it! It looks like a house out of a story book. I want a cute house!
you got rid of books?? and didnt call me to save them??
omg…
and yes, since he kills the spiders, he gets all the room he needs… :)
peace…
He should have some room in the closet, yes.
Love that pink house.
Your house is just way too cute.
OMG. I am NOT READY for Tyler to be on his own (ten feet away).
THANK GOD Nik will always be three.
I love hearing stories about my coupled friends and their individual quests for space.
The shoe part of your story made me laugh. : ) I, too, have a fetish of the shoe variety. Is trouble. ; )
Well, if he kills the spiders, he should have a little space.
I let my husband hang a (yes, singular) tie in our bedroom closet.

Go to work in some high rise and vacation at the gulf of mexico
Nope. No space need be alocated for the guy in the master bedroom closet. Let him go appropriate a closet of his own. My clothes can be found in my den closet.
Actually that works better for me because I can turn on the light and actually match my clothes without waking up MDW at half past dark in the morning.
The hubs and I have the same problem….my stuff is everywhere and he’s stuck with one tiny closet and a small chest of drawers, and my stuff seems to be multiplying…or at least that is what I tell him. Those clothes of mine, they are like rabbits! (or maybe it’s my shopping addiction…….
I so know where you’re coming from. I had my own bedroom since I was 5 years old. At age 36 I suddenly had to let The Love of My Life have half my closet and I couldn’t sleep in the middle of the bed anymore. It about killed me. It got easier, especially after I came home to clean sheets on the bed. I didn’t even have to ask!
You got rid of BOOKS …
and {gasp} shoes …
both …
at one time!?!?
You are a strong, brave woman!
That is so cool that you transformed the garage for Tyler. I bet he loves it.
There’s room for me in the closet. But only so Kristine has the opportunity to joke that I’ve come out of the closet at some point. C’mon Kristine, admit it.
But giving Tyler that room of his own is the coolest thing you could have donw, and I love you for it.
Ain’t that America, home of the free
Little pink houses for you and me.
I would have loved a garage bedroom at 15!
It’s totally easier to let people into your life than it is people’s stuff…I’m just saying…
Marrying my husband was easy moving in with him was easy (mostly) sharing a bedroom and a closet with him is not. Of course there are times when sharing a bedroom is fun *ahemmm* well that time and when my feet are cold at night. But the closet space no way. 5 years of marriage and we still have our own closets – he has the oneof the two in the bed room and I have the one in the guest room and the other one in the bedroom. In the 2nd bedroom I not only have the closet but I also have ALL OF the other stuff I need to survive; my reading couch, chenille blanket, favorite CDS etc.
Wow…I’m so impressed. I have my own issues with getting rid of stuff (as in, I can’t). Sean does deserve more room since he protects you against spiders in the shower.
:)
I’m commenting even before I read the entry because, well, I’m from Indiana (which is Mellencamp country, oh yes it is…He lives probably about an hour away from me) so good on ya for picking good lyrics to use as your title!
