Random and Odd

I’m picking out a Thermos for you. Not an ordinary Thermos for you. But the extra best Thermos for you.

A few years ago, Kara came home crying because no one at school liked her. She said that no one got her jokes. She was never going to go to school again.
I sat her down and asked her what kind of jokes she was telling or how she was trying to be funny.
She tried to explain, but I just wasn’t getting it.

I spent the next couple of days watching my daughter to try to figure out why no one wanted to play with her.

She was acting like a complete idiot. She was running around chasing people. She was making weird sounds. She was laughing hysterically like a hyena about to attack.
The next few days I hung out with her at school and her friends and tried to figure out why they wouldn’t get her jokes.

It didn’t take long to figure it out. Kara was quoting lines from movies. She’s really good like that. She can’t get her multiplication facts down, but she can recite every line from her favorite funny movie. She thought for sure that everyone would think that was a hoot, but if you haven’t seen the movie it looses something in the delivery.

After a long discussion about what I had noticed, things got better. She stopped with the quoting of movies and chasing unsuspecting people while making strange noises.

Yesterday in the car I realize that Shaun is everything she has always wanted in a friend. All the way to Redding they where quoting “The Jerk” (with Steve Martin) and singing the Thermos song. Over and Over.
and SOMEWHERE In the middle of all this, Shaun starts making crazy ape sounds. Kara starts laughing so hard you hear the seams in her bladder about to burst. She thinks this is the funniest thing she has ever seen.

Me? not so much. I warned him. I said, “I have the camera sitting on my lap and you’re going to make THAT face?”

He looked at me all ape like and made the ape like, ‘huuuuuuuh’ (which honestly sounded more like Scooby Doo)

so I took the picture.

Internet, meet my fiance…Shaun, monkey-man-friend-of-Kara:
