Yeah..her car is better than mine.
her new car!, originally uploaded by Random and Odd.
Ever drive up next to some young kid in a car and think, “Whoa, they are WAY too young to be driving?” That would be Alyx. Except she’s old enough, she just looks like she’s 11 years old.
On Saturday Lester, the girls and I drove up to Shingletown to pick up the car paw paw gave her.
Before we left we go in some shooting time. I am absolutely IN LOVE with my .45 that he gave me a few months back. I brought up my .38 and we shot the 4 boxes of bullets I had sitting around.
“Kristine, this is so dirty!” I know, I know, I am a horrible gun owner. I hadn’t cleaned it since…well…it’s been a really long time. Lester said he had all the stuff and he would clean it for me and my heart swelled with love and pride for a second.
My dad had the M1 ready for Lester to take out.
At one point I was watching my dad just grinning from ear to ear as Lester was sitting there shooting. He stood behind him to check the sighting or something and he turned to look at me and had this happy smile. I love that my daddy adores the man I love. He said, “He sure likes that gun huh?”
I saw Lester shake his head yes.
On the way from Shingletown, Alyx made it real clear she would be driving. I had been having anxiety over this moment for a few days, but I let her drive home and was really happy that she is a damn good driver. The roads to and from Shingletown aren’t the best for a new driver, but she handled herself well enough that I didn’t freak out.
I knew she would be driving from Redding to Sacramento…on the freeways…in traffic…and I decided to take my sister up on the half of Xanax before we left after our 12 mile bike ride.
Alyx kicked freeway ass.
She was doing so well, I feel asleep for a half hour! No worries with this child, she’s a born driver.
All the credit goes to her dad though because he has been taking her out for years to prepare her for this. I’m too nervous. He even let her drive from Sacramento to Oakland. I wasn’t thrilled about that, but I guess it worked, she’s a pro.
It was a great weekend with the family, but it went by too fast.
Next weekend is Mark’s birthday and I kinda owe him seeing that the last 3 birthdays he’s been helping me move and never got a party.
