I was reading through my feeds today. Kalki got me hooked on Firefox’s Sage RSS reader and I am wondering how I got through all the blogs I did before I had this lovely plug-in. Heaven.<\/p>\n

If you’re wondering why I hardly ever comment anymore. It’s Kalki’s fault. I blame her completely. I’m just sayin’.<\/p>\n

ANYWAY, I started reading KimmyK’s post about her 13 year old son<\/a>.
\nNow this is some serious stuff this post that everyone needs to go read and comment on. This is a parent with a question that NEEDS some commenting on.<\/p>\n

I commented “I plan on showing up where my kids say they are going to be and if they aren’t there, I plan on finding them and making a scene.
\nI won’t do it everytime, but it will make them think twice about getting in trouble.”<\/p>\n

(why do I keep making the word ‘every time’ one word?)<\/p>\n

The Fonz would have done this. She DID do this. I would tell her I was going to so-n-so’s house. SHE WOULD CALL. She would call the mother! The Fonz would drive over there and make sure I was there. She would hold the other parents liable. She insisted that if I was going to be with someone, their parents better be as strict as she was.<\/p>\n

You know what? It worked.<\/p>\n

I may have been the only kid that never used the ‘I’m staying at Michelle’s house. She’s staying at mine.’ story. I was too afraid that The Fonz would have shown up at their house and busted both of us and beat me in front of my friends when she found me.
\nI admit, I told her I was going to a friends house to stay the night and then went out with that friend later. I got busted. I got grounded. I got the wrath of The Fonz. Lesson learned. Never did it again.<\/p>\n

I respect my mom now. I respected her then. She wasn’t my ‘best friend’…she was my parent and I loved that about her. I needed a parent, not a buddy.
\nNow don’t get me wrong, The Fonz was fun to hang out with. She always made me laugh and I knew I could talk openly to her about things…but I always knew that if I stepped out of line she would catch me and beat me with her rubber slipper.<\/p>\n
